Episode 126 // Nicky Tiffany of The Territory Ballroom

On this episode of the podcast we’re with Nicky Tiffany of The Territory Ballroom in Council Grove, Kansas (pop. 2,140), where she’s sharing about her hopes and dreams for this business and building when the doors open — as an event space, co-working space, Airbnb, and more. Plus, the big transition that’s happened in downtown Council Grove in a short amount of time and how this has become a great destination, and why she wants to give people the opportunity to move back home and how the ballroom is going to play a role in that.

We recorded this a few months back when they were still in the middle of construction, and are now bringing this to you right before the ballroom’s official grand opening, which we’re really excited for you to learn more about.

You’ll love how Nicky is creating an experience steeped in rich history in the heart of the Flint Hills, and her grand opening derby party and dance sounds amazing! Be sure to go check out the show notes and follow along as this all unfolds over the next few weeks! And all week long we will be featuring stories of rural revival happening in Council Grove, Kansas, so be sure to scroll down for more.

People are interested in working, staying, shopping, playing downtown again. Small is the new big.

I want to give people the opportunity to move back home. I didn’t realize it at the time when we moved back home, but the support, the freedom, the security that you have in a rural community can’t be beat. You can’t recreate that anywhere. So with that you have to have the opportunity to work. Commuting, traveling, I’ve done that. It’s not sustainable, not when you’re building a family and wanting to put down those roots.

I think that God’s really been preparing my heart for that for a long time. From the time I left Dodge City to go to college until now, every step along the way has prepared me to hosting big events and helping to put on weddings and encouraging other women to work from home but not at home, and doing the things the ballroom will help facilitate.

If you’re willing to take a little bit of a risk, the possibilities are really endless.
