Images By Mosch: Capturing Local Life and Light

This week we’re featuring the town of New Providence, Iowa and sharing some of the stories of rural revival happening here! Today’s guest blog post is from Sommer Combs, a portrait artist and owner of Images by Mosch. Sommer is a dreamer, fur baby mom, and is rarely without coffee. She recently opened a storefront studio in New Providence. Welcome, Sommer!

Well, let's see. I am a portrait artist and owner of Images By Mosch. I completed my Associates of Art Degree in Professional Photography WAY back in the film days at Hawkeye Community College and went on to become a Certified Professional Photographer through Professional Photographers of America. I worked side by side with my mom for seven years. Together we turned her part-time photography gig into a full blown business.

We officially launched Images By Mosch in 2010. And here I am today, Main Street New Providence. The last few years my mom has stepped back and I feel so fortunate that people still invite me into their lives to observe and quietly capture their most precious moments by myself.

I have a need to create. It’s just who I am. I see things in light and moments and detail and am wildly inspired by people and connection. I consider myself a storyteller, specializing in the art of high school senior and newborn photography, but also love capturing families and love stories.

Why New Providence? I get asked this regularly. It’s home for me and goodness, I am so thankful every day that I have grown a business in an area full of such supporting people. Everyone in this community treats you like family and they are so positive, always encouraging others, looking for a way to give a helping hand, and celebrating everything and everyone’s accomplishments. Why wouldn’t you want to surround yourself with that everyday?! Everyone here is powered by kindness and fueled by the need to not only do more but be more. That’s why I love New Providence.
